Glue-Paper-Glue on Masonite

gluepapergluemasonite5
We have done glue-paper-glue collage in the past with recycled cereal boxes and the finished pieces were fabulous so I decided to kick it up a notch with Masonite. These turned out great!
Materials Needed:

  • Masonite
  • construction paper
  • tissue paper
  • assorted scrap papers, feathers, foam pieces, sequins, etc…
  • glue or mod pod (watered down)
  • brush

We started with 12 x 12 squares of Masonite. I got these pre-cut at the lumber yard at our local hardware store. The sheets come in 4′ x 8′ so you can get 32 squares from one sheet. sometimes the lumber yard will have smaller scraps of Masonite if you are doing this with less kids. We worked on the finished side of the Masonite which is smooth and shiny.

I watered down the washable white glue about 4:1 glue to water. We used strips of construction paper as the first layer. These strips were pre-cut from 9×12 construction paper so fit the length of the boards perfectly. I did not supply scissors but encouraged kids to tear there strips if they wanted to work with smaller pieces.

I find the best tool for applying the glue are large flat brushes.

Final treasures were added from a box of scraps that include textures and colors from old wrapping paper, paint strips, recycled art, maps, wall paper samples, feathers and foam pieces.

I love how colorful and full of texture the finished pieces are.
